Photography

Unit 3

In this unit, we learned how we can take a visually attractive picture by understanding some concepts and functions of each part of the camera.
We went through the ISO value, the shutter speed; compositions such as the rule of thirds; depth of fields, etc.
We also learned how we can edit the pictures using adobe photoshops, which allows the pictures to look very different and more attractive. For instance, we can get rid of the parts that we do not want to be in the picture.

The light in the dark

Shutter speed: 1/100
F value: 7
ISO: 800
This picture was taken at quite a fast shutter speed and medium aperture. The fast shutter speed regulates the light being captured. The F-value lets the picture have a deeper depth of field. These results in the picture focus on the narrow bright world between the two tall buildings and have a great contrast of the brightness between them. Also, it has a diagonal composition, and the bright part is organized based on a diagonal line. This adds dynamism to the picture and gives more sense of depth.
I am proud of myself for this work since it has great composition and the contrast that draws the eye to the focal point (the bright part).

shutter sped: 1/165
f-value: 9
ISO: 100
The depth of the field is quite deep so the focus is on the wide part of the picture. Also, the ISO value is 100 and small, which results in the buildings being clear and very detailed.
This picture was taken from an unusual viewpoint, which is the view of insects on the ground. The blue smooth sky without any clouds and the buildings create a great contrast.
Also, I followed the rules of the third. Each building belongs in a different box. For instance, there is one building in the left top corner box, another one in the left bottom box, and another building with big windows at all three boxes on the right side of the picture.

Movie Poster Assessment

This is the poster for the horror/mystery movie. I designed the entire poster to be dark, by adjusting the levels, brightness. Also, to make it look cold and scarier, I adjusted the color balance to reduce the redness and yellowness of the picture and make it a little blue. For the composition, I used the rule of thirds to have a great balance. The ground is in the bottom boxes, and the lights are mostly in the left boxes. I also made the light to be darker as we go deeper, to emphasize the distance and depth in the picture.
I used the picture of the subway for the background, and I cropped my dad (kidnapper), and a kid from other pictures by using a pen tool and then placing it on the background. I put a sponge filter on a small kid, which foreshadows that she is going to disappear (will be killed). I used clone stamp tool to erase the plastic bag on the floor, and the spot healing brush tool to clean the floor by erasing leaves.
Moreover, I used the unique font which creates more scary mood in the poster. I also the changed the colour of some characters to let the audience imagine blood.
